Our Board Of Directors’

Asif Abdul (Founder and CEO)

A True Humanitarian and Lifelong Rotarian.  Asif Abdul has been a resident of Calgary for more than fifty years and is widely respected for his business acumen, community service, and lifelong commitment to volunteerism.

He brings over 35 years of business experience as the owner of Customized Computers. Earlier in his career, Asif worked as a designer with ATCO Structures and as an architectural designer with several firms in Calgary and Yellowknife. He is educated in Architectural and Structural Engineering and Computer scince.

In addition, Asif owned and operated a home-building company, Castle Homes, through which he developed several residential projects in the Montgomery subdivision of northwest Calgary.

A lifelong volunteer and dedicated Rotarian, Asif has served as Past President of the Rotary Club of Calgary North and most recently the Calgary Millennium Rotary Club. His commitment to community service extends beyond Rotary; despite not knowing how to skate, he proudly served as Vice President of Rec Hockey Calgary.

John Hickie (Vice President)

Dr. Hickie’s first career was as a marine biologist working in the Caribbean, Nunavut, Alaska and off Canada’s east coast. He then attended medical school at the University of Calgary and started practice at the age of 39. His medical practice has included Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Brain Injury Rehabilitation, and Occupational Medicine.

Dr. Hickie has served on the University of Calgary Alumni Board and the Board of Governors. He has served as President of the Section of Occupational Medicine of the Alberta Medical Association.

 

Alan Ferguson (Treasurer)

Alan Ferguson is a retired technology and arts professional with a diverse career spanning software

development and creative production. After years as a Computer Programmer, they transitioned into the

arts as the Production Coordinator for the Quickdraw Animation Society, where they managed technical pipelines and supported independent animators in bringing their visions to life. Now retired,  Alan is an active member of the Calgary arts  and maker communities, blending a lifelong technical background with a passion for the creative.

Verlin Koch (Project Engineer)

Verlin Koch is a distinguished structural engineer with over forty-five years of professional experience and is registered to practice in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. He possesses extensive expertise in structural design, with specialization in both conventional and alternative construction materials.

Throughout his career, Mr. Koch has demonstrated significant proficiency in construction oversight and project management, contributing to the successful delivery of numerous projects. He has also served as a board member of the Calgary Millennium Rotary Club and continues to dedicate his time and expertise as a volunteer in support of the club’s ongoing community initiatives.
